About Us

The Access Group LLC is a privately-owned real estate investment company that acquires, constructs, renovates and manages apartment, retail and mixed-use properties.

Its portfolio consists of luxury apartment rentals, market-rate apartment units for middle-income households, affordable housing designed for low-income families and seniors, and well-located retail and mixed-use properties in large, growing urban centers. Its investment strategy is to acquire or develop properties and to hold them for a long time.

The vast majority of its properties are managed by an affiliated management company, AGM Management LLC.

Management Team

Jim Schubiner

Principal

Mr. Schubiner is the founder and key principal of the Access Group LLC. He oversees the day-to-day activities of the company and leads the efforts of its acquisitions team. He is directly responsible for the due diligence, underwriting and negotiation for the firm’s investments.

Mr. Schubiner is also the managing member of AGM Management LLC, an affiliated property management company that operates apartment properties for the Access Group and other owners.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and earned his J.D. degree from Loyola University School of Law in Chicago.

Scott Collins

Vice President of Construction

As the Vice President of Construction, Scott Collins uses his background in architecture and his experience in general contracting to budget, plan and coordinate the significant property renovations for the company. He also evaluates the performance of maintenance staff and plays a central role in hiring and overseeing the maintenance of each property. Scott also establishes the preventative maintenance schedule for each asset, prepares properties for REAC inspections and attends most physical inspections conducted by HUD or MSHDA.

Prior to joining AGM in 2009, Mr. Collins was the lead project manager for S3 Architecture and S3 Constructs for five years. Prior to that, he worked for Stout Risius Ross for four years.

Scott has his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, is a licensed Michigan Builder and an experienced project manager with a focus on commercial and multifamily projects. He also sits on the board of the Planning Commission for the City of Hamtramck.

Becky Morgan

Senior Regional Property Manager

Becky is responsible for ensuring AGM’s compliance with HUD and tax credit program requirements. She also assesses the performance of on-site staff and handles recruiting of high achieving property managers. Becky also monitors property performance on such metrics as vacancy and turnover to optimize financial performance.

Prior to assuming her current role, Becky worked as a Property Manager at Heritage Court Apartments. Before joining AGM in 2012, Becky spent four years as a Property Manager with Fodor Homes and Properties.  Becky has obtained training certificates through the National Center for Housing Management including Certified Occupancy Specialist and Tax Credit Specialist.

Karen Thorpe

Accounting

Karen Thorpe oversees the accounting, financial management and tax and insurance escrow management for eight of the properties in the AGM portfolio. Ms. Thorpe handles bill paying, tenant receivables, budgeting and preparation for the annual financial statement audits.

Ms. Thorpe has over 20 years of accounting experience in the mortgage industry and four years in property management. Prior to joining AGM in 2008, Ms. Thorpe worked for two years in the accounting department of James McNaughton Builders, a custom home builder. Prior to that, she was the Executive Assistant to the President of Mortgage Trader, a real estate lender.

Lauren Wasserman

Vice President of Operations

As the Vice President of Operations, Lauren Wasserman is responsible for overseeing and providing portfolio management to achieve operational and financial success at 1,500 units across 15 multifamily assets.  Ms. Wasserman’s approach focuses on maximizing financial returns for owners by helping site staff to maximize collections, obtaining discounted pricing from suppliers and vendors and by securing the most favorable debt financing available. With regular financial analysis of individual assets and the overall portfolio, Ms. Wasserman ensures ownership goals are continuously met. She plays a critical role in developing and implementing companywide initiatives that position the properties for steady financial performance.

Prior to joining AGM in 2009, Lauren was an investment banking analyst at Citigroup Global Investment Bank. She graduated from Brown University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics. She is an avid runner.
